Level terrain, great weather and tree lined streets: A great town for bicycles. So it would seem, though we face obstacles to riding every day—poorly maintained bikeways, lack of appropriate parking, aggressive motorists, uninformed police. No other group in Savannah is working primarily to advocate for the rights of cyclists, nor indeed to promote the bicycle as an efficient alternative to motorized transportation. These are our goals, and we hope that you will join us.
What we are about is promoting bicycling generally, for recreation, for transportation, for fun! One obstacle to that is the perception that bicycling is inherently unsafe on the roads we have. There are many cases where this is in fact true, but also good existing routes for cycling. Our objectives are to work through the political process to improve bicycle facilities for Savannah -- bike lanes, racks, and signage -- and to develop a public campaign to educate bicyclists and drivers about safe practices on and off the roadways. Ultimately, through an inclusive approach, we will make our communities more livable, connected, and safe.
