Fifth Annual Matt’s Moon River Cruise
May 20, 10:30 am$25
Moon River Brewing Company will host the Fifth Annual Matt’s Moon River Cruise, presented by Bike Law Georgia on Saturday, May 20. The event is named in memory of Matt Kohler, who was hit from behind by a driver on July 26, 2012 while riding his bike on U.S. Highway 80 in Bloomingdale. Read more about Matt’s story and his family’s efforts to reduce fatalities in Georgia: Five years of Riding for Matt, and for Safety.
This year’s event allows participants to select a 40-mile ride, 28-mile ride, a 5-mile fun ride, or simply attend the party at Moon River Brewing Company. All registrants receive a Matt’s Moon River Cruise t-shirt and a commemorative glass. The rides are organized in cooperation with the Coastal Bicycle Touring Club.
The 40-mile ride and 28-mile rides will begin at 10:30 a.m. The ride will feature staggered starts with “pace” groups, but participants are welcome to follow the marked route on their own. Registration is required to participate. Download map/cue sheet (PDF).
A five mile “fun ride” will leave Ellis Square at noon.
If you plan to participate in any of the rides, please read detailed information here.
The Matt’s Moon River Cruise party (starting at 1 p.m.) features music by DJ Jose Ray, a raffle, a special beer brewed in Matt’s honor, a special tasting of local beers and valet parking for bicycles. People who want to participate and help the cause, but who cannot attend the event, can make a donation or buy raffle tickets online (you need not be present to win).
All registrants and volunteers receive a Matt’s Moon River Cruise t-shirt and commemorative glass. Sign up to volunteer here.
